Jet, Guo Jun and I have noticed that most people these days do not have a habit of recycling and instead are throwing everything including recyclables into the trash bin without a thought.
Therefore, we have come up with the idea of making a smart dustbin that can help with introducing and upholding the habit of recycling within young adults.
IDEA
The smart bin will be able to move around on its own with self-driving capabilities using a Lidar and camera to detect objects or people. The smart bin will slow down when humans are within a small range of it and allow users to toss in their recyclable material. The smart bin will use deep learning to recognise the material of the item that was tossed inside the bin by the user and then sort out the recyclable within the bin itself by dropping the object with other recyclables of similar material.
We will need a server to handle the heavy processing that might be needed for image recognition.
Jet will be leading the building of the smart recycling bin.
Guo Jun will be training the AI to recognise items being dropped inside the smart bin.
I will be building a web application that will serve as the console and facilitate the communication between the smart bin and the server.
